Pros

Salary (LOW) Benefits. (Low) Some management is good. Fighting for independent business.

Cons

So cons. Your salary runs you between 20 amd 24 dollars an hour after taxes your salary hardly matters. You do have considerable travel. Fuel costs are high. Insurance repairs and they make it mandatory you carry additional auto insurance. After a full year it cost me an average of 976 dollars a month in fuel. Insurance 250, your cell which you need not compensated. Their abysmal monthly bonus. Cut income down less than half. It was presented as a way to pay employees more money faster but instead it brought down the amount some of other dms income. Lack of acknowledgement for different areas of Canada.

Thank you for taking the time to share this detailed feedback. I can see you felt strongly about your experience and I appreciate the candour, even where it is challenging. The District Manager role does involve travel and there are real costs that come with working across a large territory, especially in Western Canada. We are constantly reviewing our salary levels, our allowances for costs and our commission and bonus rates to try to keep up. But there is no question that inflationary pressures have created additional challenges for everyone. In fact, we are just making another change in District Manager compensation, on top of the new bonus model we launched in January 2026. I’m pleased to report that the new model has meant higher overall compensation for most of our team. We also issue a T2200 to help offset some of these expenses at tax time. On the broader comments about management culture and how ideas are received, I do want to gently push back. We have worked hard to build an organization where people feel comfortable raising new ideas. I can tell you that I receive dozens of recommendations from staff per month, and while I’m not able to move forward on them all, our management team spends a great deal of time reviewing every suggestion and implementing what we can. If your experience with your manager was different than that, I’d be keen to hear more. I wish you well in whatever comes next. Dan Kelly President & CEO

Thank you for the kind review and for your three-plus years with CFIB. I'm glad to hear the flexibility and earning potential have worked well for you. You are right that for those who are motivated, the earning potential is strong, and I hear that from many of our top performers across the country. On the car and cellphone expenses, I understand this is a concern for some staff. The T2200 we provide does allow District Managers to deduct a significant portion of those costs at tax time, which we hope helps offset the impact. That said, it is something we continue to look at as we review our overall compensation structure. We are in the process of making another boost to our compensation levels this month, on top of the new monthly bonus structure launched in January. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and for your continued commitment to helping Canada's small business owners. Dan Kelly President & CEO

Pros

Very supportive organization. Values align not only in supporting locally owned small businesses; CFIB also values family and work life balance. Position pays extremely well if you are willing to do what you need to do. I juggle a lot being a single dad, and the position is accommodating/flexible. I would highly recommend the organization :)

Cons

Job can be a bit lonely, but that is par for the course in sales. The job does allow for a lot relationship building with business owners, and that is important to me.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for the kind words. I’m glad to hear our you are finding CFIB to be an employer that supports our members while prioritizing the well-being of our staff. This isn’t an easy job at times, but we really do work hard to support locally owned businesses across Canada. Your commitment to building strong relationships with business owners is truly appreciated. You’re right that sales positions can sometimes feel isolating, and we’re always looking for ways to strengthen connection across our teams. If you have ideas on how we can do this better, please do not hesitate to share. Dan Kelly President and CEO
