Management is holding this company back from being truly great.

Pros

Solid location near Union station and the capitol, genuinely nice employees who bring a wide range of experiences and philosophies to the table.

Cons

The company is the Cleveland Browns of news media. Dysfunctional, constant turnover, clueless as to which direction it should head in.

Potential, but not with current management

Pros

Good work-life balance. Nice coworkers, collegial environment.

Cons

The Economist Group is a terrible owner. Stodgy brits with closed wallets. They think making cuts and not re-investing money into an organization is a way to keep it solvent. Needs so much investment in technology and staff to compete with Politico et al, but the Economist will never play ball. They want to suck the profit margins out so the Rothschilds can keep their nice lifestyles.

Pros

- Respected name around DC - Quality reporting tha its stuck in an inferior service

Cons

- CQ is driven by the SVP of Sales, however leadership has not seen real world market conditions since the Clinton administration - Vulgar, crass and uneducated leadership amongst the sales teams - seriously if I hear one more reference about smoking pot or about how you used to be cool in the 80s I'll shoot myself - Senior management does nothing to leverage their titles and connections for company growth - you know how some management attends leadership events? Not these guys - Unrealistic understanding of what clients want and need, development is driven by their "gut feelings" with no real business intelligence - Advancement is based upon how much the like you in the sales department, not your performance or talent level - Zero job stability or personal happiness - Management has no lives and expect you to suffer along with them - Leadership is accomplished through intimidation with no tangible market conditions to support their "hunches"
