Pros

Beautiful location Some of the kids are sweethearts

Cons

Management treat you like slaves They hold your pay check like a carrot on a stick Zero free time Expect you to also work well into the evening as security staff! With no training They have favourites and you’ll know about it if you aren’t one Shocking work conditions (food hygiene, no personal space at all, poor treatment when unwell) Expect you to work when sick

Wouldn’t change it for the world

Pros

I’ve been a counsellor for 3 summers now (should have been 4 but unfortunately COVID happened), and I can honestly say it’s been the best decision of my life. I have made some amazing life long friends, memories that will last a life time and developed relationships with the children and the staff that I will cherish forever. There are many opportunities to try different activities, from archery to water skiing to high ropes, and each one of them are amazing in their own right. Weather you choose to do it with the children or not, there are plenty of opportunities to bask in the sun and have time off and a wind down. There is a wide range of food weather you choose to eat healthy or have yourself a treat and there are plenty things you can do on your days off from going to the mall, going to a waterfall, visiting Six Flags or just taking a stroll around the local town. If you are lucky enough to secure a position here you will not regret it!!

Cons

Children are children, sometimes they won’t listen, sometimes they can be intolerable, but then they will do something to make you laugh, they will leave a note and some candy on your bed to say sorry and will want you to be the one to comfort them when they are upset. Yes the pay is low, but this job is not meant to make you rich with money, it’s to make you rich with experience, memories and relationships. You will get exhausted but you won’t want it any other way because it’ll mean you haven’t missed a minute. The top and bottom of it all is that you get out what you put in!

Friends for Life!

Pros

I’ve been linked with Romaca since 1982, and continue to enjoy the summers when able to return. Young and not so young always welcomed! I have therefore made friends for life from many different countries. There are many opportunities to enjoy the facilities, the daily activities, develop your own coaching skills and also the evening social times, to watch the campers grow and develop over the weeks, and to just embrace a really different experience and adventure. Oh and plenty of smiles and laughter are never far away!

Cons

Long days, hard work, emotional rollercoaster, little rest, low salary, 24/7 job - and I wouldn’t change a thing!
