Pros

None to speak of. Nil. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Lol. Laughable. No pros to speak of. Did I say no pros to speak of.

Cons

Cheap. Badly managed. No RSP program. Did I say cheap, cheap, cheap? Low ballers on salary, no incentive program to speak of. Orders fail, deliveries are late. No direction. No one knows what they are doing. The IT dept. is clueless. Including the management. Not good to work here. No room to advance. They go through people like underwear because people quickly learn that the company sucks and they jump ship. Repeat: work elsewhere. This is not a company to grow in. If you're desperate use them to your advantage, then jump ship AS SOON AS you find something better. This company has one thing and one thing only in mind. The self interest of the management. And money!! So treat it as a bargain basement crappy stepping stone, because that is all it is. It's a wonder they stay afloat because no one really knows what they are doing, nor are best practices followed. Don't work if you can avoid it.

The only employees in Edmonton that left our company in the last year that had more than 3 years service were both Sales Reps. Most sales reps in our company earn above average or well above average total incomes. Total income is driven by commissions, so total income for sales is entirely within their control . As previously mentioned, our turnover is no higher than the average and our turnover rate has been declining. Over the last two years we have built a highly capable IT team. Many successful employees are developing and growing and getting new opportunities within the organization. Job seekers take note that all our current employees are giving good reviews!

stressful environment

Pros

The hiring process is fast and smooth. Some of the employees from other branches are really nice and helpful. Pay is average.

Cons

High turnover rate probably because of stressful environment. When I got hired here, I thought it was fun working here because you get to focus on your main job but the company downsized and some employees left due to "stress" and you are forced to do everything after that. It's getting more and more stressful everyday due to the amount of work outside of your main job. Some employees are just difficult and toxic to work with. They expect you to learn everything but won't teach you and if you make a mistake, they will make you feel that you are stupid. You can't do anything because they have been working here for a long time but it's also because of them why former employees left.. I work 8.5 hours everyday Monday-Friday but most of those hours, I do things outside of my main job. it is not fun anymore. I thought this is the company that I will stay for a long time but I don't think I will last on this company anymore.

Terrible Company - All good reviews are from the HR department

Pros

- Some good staff members who make working here tolerable

Cons

- No recognition for current employees, everyone wants to leave. - Management is very poor from all levels. - Definitely a 'boys club.' - Constant changing of people in various positions. - The HR department lacks any form of HR qualities. - All reviews that are good are done by the HR department trying to save their reputation, as they have lost many good employees. - I was underpaid by more than 75% of people in my former position.

Cansel is a very dynamic company and will continue to have lots of change. We will continue to purchase new business and we make this clear to all potential candidates when they apply. The many acquisitions makes it busy and exciting and creates opportunity. Unfortunately, this environment isn't for everyone. At our head office half our Senior Managers are women and 80% of our Operations Managers across the country are women. All jobs have been benchmarked with the industry and all employees in the company fall within those established benchmarks. However as many of our non-administrative roles have variable pay components, a large percentage of our employees earn above average incomes. New employees with no experience can expect to start lower in the pay scale and work their way up as they gather experience and add more value to the company. HR is a relatively new discipline at Cansel in the last 2.5 years. HR has set up quarterly communications to all staff, developed a modular benefits program to improve benefits for all employees, improved vacation management to ensure all staff take their vacations, improved recruitment and onboarding, developed referral programs, upgraded the payroll system, developed safety policies and safety committees, book clubs, on-line educational opportunities, re-established Christmas parties, and provided an avenue for employees to express concerns. We are continuing to develop structures and systems to support our employees. HR has not written all the positive responses, however we did encourage some employees to provide truthful reviews of the company to counter some of the disgruntled ex-employees reviews. Most of our employees are actually quite happy and this has been demonstrated through employee surveys.
