Pros

The office is in close proximity to Milos. That's it.

Cons

Where do I even start. 1.) Treat employees like complete dirt who do not deserve basic respect 2.) Lowest salary compared to any law firm in Alabama 3.) To get this imaginary raise they speak of, you must meet an impossible number of billing hours and then hope they do not get cut because of bad wording, etc. 3.) HR department has no heart. Trust me, they do not care about you as a person. You are a number. 4.) This company is literally a revolving door. Someone will be there one day, gone the next. You have no value in their eyes. 5.) Attorneys get leather chairs. Paralegals get non-leather chairs with arms. Secretaries get non-leather chairs with no arms. This is how they treat people: if you seem important, you will be at the higher end of the food chain. If not, you get treated like dirt 6.) The HR department will hate you. Just accept it. They hate all their employees and don't be fooled thinking you are an exception. 7.) You will be offered this job as "salary". Don't be fooled, this is an HOURLY JOB. Your paycheck will vary based on clock in and out times. That is defined as hourly. 8.) Kiss vacation days goodbye. After working the end of your first year, you will be handed 10 "vacation days" at the beginning of the year. However, you better not have a family member die, have a medical emergency, have an unexpected life event, becomr extremely ill, etc. - these vacation days will disappear immediately. There are no other options. 9.) They do not care about you, they only care about legally covering themselves in every aspect. Get run over by a car in their parking lot? Better make sure you are released to return to work & have documentation for their file. That's all that will be said to you. 10.) Fun fact: you are billed out at $75 per hour; you will get paid $15 per hour. Forever 11.) GET READY FOR HIGH SCHOOL. The gossip and drama between grown adult people is higher here than any high school in America. Shocking right? You WILL be talked about behind your back. Everyone is. 12.) Snow storm? Tornado? End of the world? Doesn't matter - this firm remains open and you better find a way to get there to clock in on time. 13.) Think you're an adult? Carr Allison doesn't. If you are under the age of 50, you are still a child that will get treated like one. 14.) Do you like sunshine? Tough. Paralegals are not allowed to have offices with windows. 15.) Do you like to eat lunch? You better do it in 30 minutes flat (this would be your UNPAID lunch break). Oh and don't clock in a minute early, you will get a nasty email. 16.) If you still aren't convinced, just know that you will 100% find all of this to be true. I would never spend this long typing a review if I wasn't trying to help prevent others from making the bad decision I did when I accepted this job.

Pros

Depends on which attorney(s) you work for. Some are wonderful, others terrible. Paralegals get an annual Christmas bonus IF they make their billing goal.

Cons

As stated in the Pros, it depends on which attorney you work for. With some attorneys, there is no training or learning curve - you are expected to know the ropes from day one without any instruction. As a result, simple mistakes are repeated without any correction, then you're fired for sub-par work. Some attorneys were a revolving door, going through half a dozen paralegals during the 4 years I was there. The non-attorney firm management really needs some training in how to work with people. They do not understand what is involved in legal support work in the 21st Century, in the age of emails and attorneys who can work round the clock from anywhere in the world. Also, the accounting department is constantly trying to shift its work onto already overloaded legal secretaries and paralegals. No solutions or suggestions from staff are welcome, unless it conforms with what firm administrators want to hear. Health insurance is ridiculously expensive for family coverage.

Cons

Unfortunately, I was unaware of the toxic culture Carr Allison Lawfirm was known for before accepting the position. Reviews listed on Glassdoor.com exclaimed the toxic nature of this company towards its employees. Among this company's many faults includes nepotism, lack of pertinent communication, inconsistent task instruction, unprofessional policy stewardship from HR, and verbal/emotional abuse towards lower status employees.
