Pros

- No uniform That's literally it.

Cons

- Awful upper management. The area managers or 'Ops Managers' are some of the laziest and incompetent workers I've ever met. None of them have a clue how to actually run a store and place unrealistic expectations on store management. They get paid better than everyone at store level but are constantly 'on holiday' (ours was literally off every other week) and are unable to answer basic questions when you need help and advice. It was insulting to be inferior to these buffoons. - Rough, aggressive, smelly customers. Basically the scum of the town or city where the store is located. Loads of drug addicts and alcoholics looking for money to feed their addictions. Chavs and people on probation from prison. Squared up to once by a customer and shouted at, sworn at, called names and threatened most shifts. - No proper training, even at Management level. Their 'training', only implemented in the last 2 years despite being open since the 90s is reading a website on policies. - Forced to handle filthy items from customers, covered in saliva, blood, dog hair and worse. We were told we were 'too fussy' in turning away items in the store I worked at, even during the height of the pandemic. - Terrible pay at all levels. They expect you to put up with so much abuse and mistreatment but pay you the lowest the possibly could. We consistently hit bonus when I worked there, so our Area Manager tacked on a big increase in targets to attempt to stop us getting it so often. You won't be valued here - they are an immoral and selfish company that's run by idiots. Do not work here; as other people have said, you deserve better than this.

Pros

The people in the shops, on the front lines, are lovely. I have nothing bad to say about the store staff.

Cons

This is a company that cuts every corner, regardless of the consequences. They will try and pay you less than minimum wage by skimming off the edges of your shift. Holidays are a mess as they come out of wage data, so you are frequently denied them and won't find out until two or three days before. You will be denied them until they reset, and then have most of them wasted despite asking for them for months. It's standard pratice to have to threaten the company with ACAS in order to get your basic workers rights. Head office are so unbelievably out of touch with what it's actually like to work in one of the stores. Many OMs (CEX version of line managers) look down on staff, and talk down to them to the point it could be considered workplace bullying. One in particular is known to frequently abuse store policy whilst firing staff members who do the same. Store policies change every week or two, and franchise stores can make their own, so there is no consistency. This is confusing for customers and frustrating for staff. Their idea of 'training' is reading a pamphlet and then signing that you've read it. The shop encourages scalpers, even at a loss to the company. They are full of bad buisness decisions, and then make up the loss by gradually cutting any small beneifits and incentives that low-level staff have. Stay away from this company. They will grind you into the dust and then act like it's a privilege to work for them. Yes, they have cexfest, but keeping a dog in a cage and throwing it a piece of meat once a year doesn't count as treating it well. I cannot express enough how awful CEX is. If I could give negative stars, I would.

Pros

Made some good friends, got to see some weird and wonderful tech that I wouldn't have otherwise and got that first job on my cv

Cons

Higher management don't seem to ever set foot in a store before suggesting changes The amount of times I have cried bc of customers being awful is absurd and nothing ever really is done to prevent this happening, also nobody cleans things before bringing them in, and get funny when I don't wanna touch their dusty, dirty 360 games
