Base pay on the low end

The good people are far outnumbered by the horrible people. Demeaning, threatening, yelling and intimidation are all the tactics used by the managers to "keep the troops in line". The San Rafael Packaging group is the worst of them all, with a constantly revolving hamster wheel of turn over. I saw 8 people come and go in a year while the manager sat in her office reading the newspaper and doing assignments for her MBA program. 10-12 hour days were the norm with no effort made to balance workloads. Zero growth opportunities. Low pay. Pitiful "bonuses". Expensive benefits. Incredibly stressful work environment both by nature (containers and ships never stop moving) as well as by all mentioned above.
