Pros

Free films, discount, good staff to work alongside (at my particular site) Different aspects to different ops manager roles so days are quite varied. Career opportunities if you're willing to relocate. Lots of different areas and skills you can learn.

Cons

Shift work - sometimes until 2/3am at my site. Head office communication is pretty awful, and they can make it difficult to get the ball rolling on simple things. Lack of support when trying to reward staff - one of the worst aspects was being told we had to recruit new staff then being reduced to minimum hours week. This was awful as team members assume this comes from site management and not HO. During a visit from a regional manager a folder was physically thrown across a desk in my direction - in front of team members. Then during a presentation we were asked to prepare he sat on his phone. This first meeting is what has meant I no longer have any interest in pursuing a career with cineworld. Anything for profit type company. Setting targets for us to raise money for charity - surely a good thing? The targets are high and we are constantly put under pressure to meet this as well as our company targets. I agree with raising money but not the pressure we are under and the feeling we will be punished if we do not reach it.

Pros

You make great friends with people you work with and become very close so they make shifts bareable. You get a decent discount and free films

Cons

0 hour contract that go from 4 hours a week to 40 suddenly, day off requests either ignored or refused with no good reason, rotas coming out with hardly any notice, managers have favourites that allow certain employees to get away with anything and even will extend to better hours for them and no diciplinary action if they broke codes of conduct, you try to enforce company policies but managers and team leaders will screw the policies if a customer moans enough and make you look like an idiot, you are expected to do extra work with no extra merit, rotas won't stick to your availabilities, there's a fair amount of gossip and everyone knows your business, managers will ridicule and talk down to team members they don't like, some male managers sexualised and made female employees feel uncomfortable, bad pay, managers get bonuses if they save labour money so often would give hardly any hours and would only have younger workers on so that older workers were left with nothing, no support at all if you were struggling during busy times, could only get anywhere within the company if you were ready to lick the backsides of managers, could never get away if it was busy and you'd finished your shift, too much pressure to upsell and constantly badger customers, would be expected to work into early hours of morning if closing.

Just don’t do it

Pros

Free films (in own cinema for first 3 months and then a cinepass which allows you and one other in any cinema) That is literally all.

Cons

- Zero hour contracts- you will be told on interview/hiring that some are part time and some are full time and that it’s only zero hour for legal reasons and it’ll never be less than 30hours a week- quite simply NOT TRUE! Hours depend on how busy the cinema is so not enough hours ever for a full time job - Rotas are released with 3 days notice and no more - Awful staff are kept on which means staff who know how to do their job have to pick up the slack - closing shifts will usually finish between 12-1am but can be as late as 3 during busy periods (in interview you will be told 12am is the latest you’ll finish) - you’re basically a glorified cleaner -there is clear favouritism amongst management and team leaders - when booking holiday you’ll always be persuaded to just have those days as days off instead (so the company don’t have to pay you) -the needs of the business are put before the needs of the staff, emotional and physical well-being is not important
