I worked at Coventry University part-time

    Pros

    Front-line teaching and admin staff.

    Cons

Extensive workload imbalances between schools and courses leading to lack of time to undertake scholarly activity or any CPD. Managers who bully staff are unchecked (grievances are widely understood not to work). Anti-union practices.

    Advice to Management

Strive to create a culture where people feel valued, where there is a commitment to identifying and correcting abuses of power, where talented and hard working staff flourish.

I worked at Coventry University full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Good Equipment and facilities.

    Cons

Management Is poor. Discriminate against people who suffer with depression. People in high level positions don't have a clue what they are doing. And growth opportunity are not based on skills but on popularity. Set unrealistic deadlines, putting a lot of work on junior staff members. Nick Worthington!

    Advice to Management

Hand in your notice and let someone qualified do the job. Bullies should not work in management.

I have been working at Coventry University part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Some very nice colleagues.
    Good annual leave allowance.

    Cons

Over the years our department has lost any sort of 'family' or 'social' feel. Staff generally get their heads down, get work done, and then get home.
University is very business focussed, very recruitment (i.e. sales driven). Though this is perhaps a symptom found across all HE now..

    Advice to Management

Position staff and student welfare higher on the agenda - if they're looked after they will be able to do better for the institution.
