Pros

As someone who crafts in their spare time, the best part was helping someone get everything they needed for a project they found online and giving advice on how to make/build it.

Cons

The management is absolutely god awful from the store location manager all the way up to the owners. Everyone working there looks miserable and the customers notice it. You couldn't spend time with customers or it was "wasting time", just point them to the item they ask for. If they wanted something in another department, you just had to point them there and let that employee handle it. You couldn't create/test new products so unless you had a hobby in your own time of experimenting with crafts, you just had to wing explanations to customers. There was one owner who came in and threw a tantrum in the middle of the store, screaming at an employee (who was crying) as he threw a wooden box to the ground. There were customers around and I was embarrassed for him. Totally unprofessional.

Pros

The people you work directly with are usually nice, and you get a small employee discount. Once per year they'd also give everyone a Craft gift card. I loved working in the frame shop because the work was interesting, challenging and always changing.

Cons

Corporate was greedy and uncaring about it's long-time employees. I was second to the head framer, a 60 year old woman who had worked for the company foe 13 years. Corporate didn't even know who she was, and gave no recognition to her or their other long-time employees. I worked there for 3 years and was being paid $13 per hour, and when I asked for a raise to match minimum wage going up, I was told they could only give me $13.40. I left to go work elsewhere very soon after that. Management is constantly stressed out and they would often take it out on employees. I enjoyed my department, but I could not afford to keep letting them take advantage of me.

Pros

Most of the folks that you work with are really great. Easily make friends with co-workers, and even the managers of the individual stores are pretty great, and want the best for employees. The actual work in the Framing department is fun, and allows for some creativity in the day to day activities. Also you get to see a lot of cool and fun art, and help make lasting memories for customers.

Cons

The Customers. Most are pretty good, but there's always the terrible ones, and unfortunately CW rewards the problem customers with extra discounts and coupons instead of just kicking them out for throwing a tantrum. The corporate team feels very out of touch with what the actual workers on the floor see and do on a daily basis. orders come down for new sales, or lack of sales, and don't seem to take suggestions from workers to heart. Also, forget about a regular or flexible schedule unless you've worked at a location for 10+ years, and don't get your hopes up for a decent wage. Especially in the framing department, where the work HAS to be a bit more technical because the learning curve is a pretty steep jump from normal cashier duties, the pay isn't any higher. I understand why the commission for larger custom projects had been stopped, but a little kickback as a team for a $1000+ project would have been nice. Really any show of appreciation by the company, and even the mangers would have been nice.
