I was super excited to work for DHgate as I was familiar with the website. My expectations were quickly deflated. I worked for DHgate under their US trading partners AVS International. I was offered the position of Social Media Specialist and worked with another coworker of with the same title. I quickly learned that this title was misleading as ultimately we were just online salesmen/spammers. They didn't care about social media at all as long as we acquired a set amount of new customers PER DAY! One month into working here we're were told we were moving offices one city away... We were given this news at the end of a business day on Friday and the move was the upcoming Monday. I did not get compensated more for the commute even though it took me sometimes an hour or more to arrive at the new location. Near the end of my time there I noticed a lot of people getting let go until finally I was let go prior to completing my 90 day probation. Management was incompetent and only cared about performance even when their incompetence made it impossible. There were always problems with the site, internet, promo codes etc and yet on those days the quota was still mandatory. I would not recommend this place to anyone actually. I would have mental breakdowns driving to and from work due to the pressure. If you can hit your quota, manage a page, and deal with endless emails of customer complaints a day then more power to you.
P.S. during my time here I was worked off of my personal phone to run the accounts when though I was promised an iPad my first week. We also did not have staff emails to conduct our business so we worked from Gmail which ruined any credibility we had as staff. I encourage more employees to speak up if they've been abused by this employer.
