Pros
- If you love the beauty industry, you'll love working at Daily Vanity. You'll get to write about the latest news and trends, as well as receive the occasional promotional products from time to time. - Friendly colleagues who you can easily reach out to for help and they will be open to teaching and guiding you should you need it. - Management will establish goals for your job and encourage you to work towards them such as having a certain amount of engagement per article. - Training is provided on the job, so do not worry if you have no prior experience in this industry or field. You will learn about how to write for an online magazine and obtain the latest techniques about SEO writing and writing for an online audience. - Due to the trendy nature of the industry, you will also occasionally get to participate in the company's social media by filming TikToks and other videos. May also have to try beauty hacks or go to beauty salons and write reviews for articles. - Once you get the hang of things, you will be pitching your own stories to write about. If approved, it may or may not be assigned to you.
Cons
- Those who do not understand the beauty industry may struggle. Sometimes what you have to write about is quite technical such as product ingredients, makeup techniques, and so on. - Very small scale company with a tiny writing staff. When I was there, there was basically only one person writing for each website (Daily Vanity has 3 websites). Though the director and the single senior staff member also write articles, the writing team was pretty much the five of us for a while, before one person left and then it became four until I left. - You will have a tight workload. Generally, you will be producing two articles a day. Sometimes it can be one article with some time leftover to do research for another lengthier piece. You will be expected to finish these articles in that specific day, even if it is supposed to go up next week, so there is ample time for seniors to edit your work. - Here's a tip: Do not finish your work ahead of time. If you complete an article before its due date, they will simply assign more work for you. There is no point in trying to lessen your workload ahead of time. - Easily burnt out environment. One or two articles are published everyday on the Daily Vanity and Daily Vanity Malaysia websites, with Avenue One being the least updated website. The writing team is way too small to sustain this. It is not like they never stopped trying to hire people - it seems as if everyone they were interviewing were unable to pass their writing test.
Pros
Flexible and can gain a lots of experiences
Cons
Staff turn over quite high
