Pros

Good for work experience. Casual office with flexible working hours. Somewhat friendly staff.

Cons

The company is primarily sales driven, meaning that the actual product is an afterthought. There are greater incentives for sales than for delivering quality products as an engineer. The software itself is all legacy and primarily written in Perl. Not many of the developers are actually familiar with the product as the people that designed it are either no longer with the company or not willing to document it. This is also a result of the high turnover in the company. Members of the team have either been there a couple months or 7+ years, none in between. The CTO & CEO like to prototype features in production, causing more problems than I care to mention. General lack of any software development practices along with a lack of HR practices create an unprofessional working environment. Performance bonuses are calculated behind closed doors so you have no real feedback as to how this relates to your performance. Whilst you are given a job title/role, you will be given responsibilities outwith your pay grade, role and comfort zone. Due to the arbitrary way bonuses are calculated, you are unlikely to see any compensation or recognition for the extra work you have completed.

Pros

Ability to work from home Helpful, friendly support team Spacious kitchen area Training when necessary Flexible hours depending on the position

Cons

Rude upper management, do not care about their staff Customers will always have problems at launch, expect many tickets for those at Support Account managers usually speak down/at Support team members, expect to be shouted at for no good reason High employee turnover, everyone has either been at Daxtra for 1-5 months or 7-10 years No real place to grow, even if you upgrade from one department to another you’ll still be called back to perform tasks you should not be doing HR/Receptionist is unarguably rude, invasive, nosy and unfriendly You will be grilled for the things you do not automatically know or weren’t even trained for Products are written in out-of-date, overtly complex Perl scripts

Pros

*Flexible working hours *Ability to work from home when necessary *Monthly "training" is followed by dominoes pizza for the whole office (whether they took part in the training or not). * 1 of the 11 members of staff that has left the Edinburgh office this calendar year was a very toxic member of the Human Resources team who was racist, islamaphobic, ablest, and transphobic as well as being known to physically and mentally abuse staff. So your experience may be better than mine and the other 10 who left.

Cons

*Management refuses to listen to advice from staff both current and present, through either ignorance or the knowledge they will always be able to fill the ever existent gap in their workforce. *Code base is very outdated. Good luck if you want help understanding or fixing a part of code - you will be answered with "magic" as the code is too badly written to be understood and the staff haven't been there long enough to know why it was written that way. *It's not uncommon for staff to break down in the office or be off sick with stress for great periods of time. The Sales department oversell and over promise, and the technical staff are under paid, under supported - and running low on numbers. *You will be expected to do overtime depending on your role, but you won't get paid for it. *Most of your salary come from your quarterly KPI's. Only the CTO knows how these are allocated and it can change wildly without any wording. *As 10 brilliant members of staff have left this year (many of whom were very senior or the only person able to do that job) life will only get more difficult within the company I imagine.
