Pros

Some pretty cool clients Brilliant talent

Cons

-If you're a female: do yourself a favor and don't apply. No, seriously. - Driven by how you fit into their bro culture, not so much the quality of your work - A lot of the star players on this team, don't really do the work, they just inflate the ego of their boss. It's the only way to stay safe. -There is no work-life balance. You're tallied on your late days, your working from home days and if you've been out sick. -HR is BAD. Not bad like sloppy paperwork but rather the anti-HR, nothing nice to say about anyone, ever. Will burn anyone to make sure the CEO still likes her. -There is no direction -There is no real management -Runs on ego -When not running on ego, the company runs on gossip -Not human in client relationships or employee relationships -To the CEO, you are a vehicle that produces revenue. nothing more, nothing less -9 times out of 10 someone is talking about you behind your back

Pros

- They attract bright, talented people - Nice new building - Diverse clients - Free snacks

Cons

- Another reviewer mentioned the boys club. If you’re one of the few in that club you’ll do well. Forget accountability... theyll deflect blame and can do no wrong even though they recycle quotes like “fail faster” - Females in senior positions rarely last. It’s a pattern - Leadership is often abusive - they make a good effort retaining staff... But often bash other agencies and position theirs as the promised land - Mixed results with “agile” approach

Over Promise, Under Deliver

Pros

A variety of projects that you may or may not get to be a part of.

Cons

Senior management takes advantage of younger employees, which should be no surprise in the industry. Prepare to be underpaid and battle at every chance you think you have for a promotion or raise; it is likely not to happen. Often, I would find that I'd be promised to work on a project that piqued my interest, only for it to be shifted to the creative director, not allowing the team to try new things to increase their skills as promised. Creatively, you'll end up doing more work for the CEO's personal social media accounts than you'll have agreed upon. If you are religious, be warned the CEO will often compare himself to the Messiah in the guise that other people have called him that. Jokes about the "Me too" movement are also often made in the workplace, slurs, and other inappropriate jokes, including a slack channel for sexual innuendos. Note: HR is a position that doesn't necessarily exist in this company. Another downside was the "family-like" environment that encourages longer working hours for fewer complaints, but if you're too close to someone, management will notice, and eventually, you'll be separated. As for a healthy work-life balance, you won't be encouraged to have one. From the CEO and management boasting about working on the weekends to publicly shouting out employees who worked after hours, you'll never feel like you're doing enough. The management team is mostly men that have been there for YEARS. They're all close, and I have seen them push out other members who didn't fit their energy. While this may sound dramatic, finding proof of these things would take seconds to search the slack channels or reach out to past employees. If you're someone who can create firm boundaries and can detach emotionally on the day-to-day, then you may find this company bearable.

Digital Surgeons Response

As a female who joined the company's leadership almost a year ago, I'm sorry that this was your experience. I hope it is of some comfort to you that, in large part, I don't recognize the company you describe from your time here 2+ years ago. We've made significant improvements, and continue to do so, to help encourage and enable a better work-life balance; and make no apologies for acknowledging anyone who goes above and beyond after hours, though we hope those instances are the exception and not the rule. Our internal anonymous satisfaction surveys speak to the work we've done to focus on our teammates and ways of working (an increase of 15 points in the last 6 months with an average satisfaction rating of 8/10.) I wish your experience had been different, and I will continue to implement initiatives here that ensure others' experiences are more positive as they've been lately.
