If you are looking for a fun, flexible and modern company this is not the one as the vibe is very outdated/ still like pre-pandemic office working.
- Very corporate/ dated (i.e. they don't seem too keen on hybrid/ WFH, you can't be seen with your personal phone on site etc.) However if you're used to a corporate/ manufacturing environment then it's probably fine.
- No sick pay for first 6 months
- No ability to work in a hybrid way for the first 6 months (you seem to have to earn this over your probation even if you are offered a role with the understanding it will allow WFH. I was not told it would be a full half a year when it was discussed at interview)
- It turned out hybrid would not be true hybrid/ wfh anyway, with them seeming keen you don't take regular wfh days and needing to request before taking them.
- Generally not many benefits (i.e. no private health care)
- Treated poorly when leaving which is why I chose 1 star.
Initially I was told that once I handed my notice in my contract would be terminated immediately (which is incorrect as my contract stated 1 month even during probation - which they then agreed was right after I fed this back.)
I was told I would have to take upcoming bank holidays and pay this back alongside other outstanding holiday if I chose to carry out my notice period as they are counted as part of overall annual leave. I offered to just work them to combat this but was told no, and asked what I 'would even do' (as a fairly new employee.)
I was then offered a deal that if I left on the day of my notice being handed in, they would waive the need to repay any outstanding holiday and urged me to take this option. They tried to get me to phone my new employee on the spot to see if I could start sooner, which I refused to do.
A HR rep should probably have been present too, however, when i fed back by email that I thought the situation had been badly handled, they simply said it was standard practice at Egger and since I had the meeting with them they had no further comments.
Overall it just left me with a really bad final impression, so I'd say be clear on what your contracts include before starting and be wary when leaving.
