Young designers beware.

Pros

Thrown into the fire; your skill set will grow quickly because the owner and principal designer has no idea what she is doing. The business is horribly unorganized which will teach you to be quick on your feet and independent.

Cons

Owner has good taste but no clue how to implement. The design studio is a joke. The stress level is extremely high with very low pay. The owner takes no responsibility for being unorganized and under-skilled. The owner also treats her employees horribly. The turn over rate is like nothing I've ever seen, and even though the reason people leave is solely her she refuses to accept that. Also, everyone in the office knows when someone is getting fired because she thrives on drama. It's unbelievable. Although working here is horrible, I learned an extensive amount in the short time I was there.

Pros

Although there was not much support for the interior design position at this company, it did teach me a lot about design and being self-supportive. I was also able to meet very nice clients and learned a lot about the interior design process through the client meetings.

Cons

Working here was a terrible experience for me. I hope that this review helps to save a young designer from making the same mistake that I did in looking at the company for face value when I applied. If you don't know much about the company, it looks like a pretty great place to work, and a great place to gain experience. It is not any of these things. It is unorganized, under-equipped, and not a good environment to support creativity. One of my least favorite parts about the company was that it seemed to be very racist, and very open about being racist. You were encouraged to not help customers that came in the store if they were African American. It was embarrassing and ignorant, and it made me uncomfortable just being around it. Also, the pay is terrible. You make the salary of an intern while taking on the responsibilities of a Lead Designer. All in all, this is a completely unprofessional place to work and I would not recommend working there to anyone.

Pros

There was a new reason to be angry each day..

Cons

The people running this business truly have no idea what they are doing. They are unorganized, rude, and will go back on what they say constantly. The owner will not address you, but go to another employee just to ask/talk poorly of you. If you ask for training you will not receive it and be berated if you aren’t doing it they way they want.
