Pros

You will gain a lot of experience in the industry with this company. Good addition to any resume. Free parking (only if you are in the office as part-time, or a full-timer) Some company matching 401k Decent benefits BUT very high deductibles and astronomical if you have dependents.

Cons

I will say that others have left a great caption of the cons of working at Olympia. The part-time employees have no idea what it's really like as they only work events. A very small few work in the offices (less than 20 part-timers in the office). Below is my own view of the cons at Olympia. Working at Olympia will expose you to the following: Extreme sexual harassment: Managers will harass their subordinates and will receive nothing more than a slap on the wrist by HR (which ironically enough is ran by a woman). Below industry standard pay: You will make less than your counterparts in other companies. You will make less than the vendors working for the company. This is a well-known fact with Olympia that they will try to smooth over by reminding you that "You are provided access to events and games free of charge" This of course only holds true when you are working and this is afforded to you at any other company in the industry as well. Not a benefit. Zero work/life balance: You literally will live at the office. You will miss important dates, holidays, birthday and other events in your own life because "the event comes first, always". However, while you are working the events, you will see your higher management with their family members enjoying themselves with the night off, after you were told no one is having it off by the same manager. Nepotism: Managers will hire family and friends over talented candidates from both inside and outside of the company. You will likely be passed over by someone fresh out of school because of a family members connection. This is extremely rampant throughout every Ilitch owned company. Zero Professional Development: The company says they perform performance reviews but this is nothing more than a farce. You will not receive any feedback on your work performance until you cause a serious issue at which point you will most likely be terminated. Constant embarrassment: The company cannot get its bills paid on time. You will constantly have to make up excuses for any vendors you work with as to why they have not received their money, in some cases, for several months or years. This is due to the massively outdated system and policies they have in place that has not changed since the 1990's Illegal Payroll practices: This isn't the fault of the payroll department, but the directors of departments who knowingly falsify documentation to keep the budget right. This includes having people work for free for several months before "Making it up to them" by officially offering them a job, or, by being told they cannot afford to pay you for a promotion but promote you anyways under the guise of "We'll pay you back when the time is right". Intimidation: You will be reminded constantly that you are replaceable and not valued by the company. False Promises: If you work in sales, expect to be told you will get a bonus that will never come because the bonus goals will always be raised throughout the year to impossible numbers that cannot even be sold due to occupancy laws. Complete disconnect between management and employees: Most of the management in this company has absolutely no idea what their workers even do for a job and the work it takes to perform tasks and need to be reminded countless times about why something can or can't be done. This is not just the managers, but the directors as well. Complete inadequacy and lack of knowledge, yet, they will succeed because they keep up the appearance of having a grasp on the daily operations. Changes in conditions of employment: Expect massive changes to the conditions of your employment and position without notice and be careful not to question it as you will be seen as a troublemaker and quickly terminated. Complete disregard for your loyalty as an employee: You will be treated as nothing more than a number in this "Family Operated" company. Loyalty will get you nowhere at all. Ask the managers and supervisors who have been with the company for 5-15 years. They have sacrificed their own personal lives for the company, yet were passed over for promised promotions by friends of management. If you speak up about any of this you will be told, more or less, "We can find someone else on the street right now to replace you"

Pros

Flexible work schedule & great co-workers.

Cons

Below market hourly pay is actually justified by management. We were told that we should consider the opportunity to watch pro-sports & major events as benefits & part of compensation. Problem is, no one is allowed to really watch any of the events b/c we have to be professional & attentive. We’re not even allowed to watch from an open door when we’re on a break!
