Pros

After working as a Director of ACCESS, I can say the staff is friendly and supportive, but the senior leadership is not.

Cons

The organization has the wrong type of senior leaders starting with the CEO. She has been there too long and is out of touch with the staff, the physicians and the patients. Morale is low among physicians and staff members. Why is a CEO of a $130M organization making over $500,000 a year? Please check the financials at Charity Navigator before even applying at this organization.

Pros

I was surrounded by equally passionate individuals about community-based research and health. I felt supported in my role if I had questions or needed help. If I stayed in the position longer, I would have been able to grow into more advanced roles. The pay was strong for an entry-level position with bonuses available throughout the year.

Cons

Research projects were led by universities, such as Northwestern or the University of Chicago. Oftentimes, the research teams from these universities never stepped foot into the health centers and used Access FQHCs for diverse study populations. Unfortunately, without being part of the research at health centers, these teams were unaware of the work being done by Access-employed research and clinic staff.
