Pros

I worked for a few months in summer of 2017. I loved the people who worked in the Business / Marketing office (separate from the geneticists' / programmers' office). Everyone was very friendly and respectful. I am a woman, and I can confidently say that there was zero issue with any sort of sexism or inappropriate workplace behaviour. I didn't feel micro-managed at all. I also think the ActX platform is an innovative, interesting idea. I enjoyed working to aid in marketing the product. In the process, I learned a lot about marketing and sales within the Health Care industry. Also, the office is in a prime location to get coffee or lunch from the nearby bakeries / the Starbucks within the building. Always a plus. And there is free coffee / tea / occasionally snacks in the break room.

Cons

The office is an open office plan (no cubicles), which does mean there is a lack of privacy in some respects. This wasn't a problem for me, but it could be for other people.

Pros

I've worked as a full-time employee and as a contractor, telecommuting the entire time. Both experiences have been challenging and rewarding. This is a workplace with the flexibility, fast pace, and innovation of a startup combined with the vision and stability of a well-established company. There has been opportunity for my role to shift and grow, and professional development is well-supported.

Cons

Remuneration is fair, but could be more competitive with the industry. Benefits are average, which means you won't find stereotypical startup frills like yoga/game rooms/beer on tap, etc.

Pros

The commute, health insurance, and product are great. You'll work for a company that is truly innovating in healthcare, and for a boss who has already built a successful business that got acquired. If you're willing to work hard to cash in on what I like to call the "startup lotto," I think this is a good bet for a company that could really go somewhere. Plus, you'll be in the middle of Belltown, walkable to Pike Place Market, lots of restaurants and stores where you can run errands during lunch. The owner is open to one flex day/week, which is a good start.

Cons

If you've ever freelanced, you know what it's like to have an intense client. The CEO is very smart and opinionated, so you have to know how to stand up for what you believe in. Your boss is your client and sometimes all you can do is express your opinion, then do what the client asks. This work is difficult, and there are a lot of kinks to work out, but I think there is a lot of potential to be rewarded if you're willing to stick it out.
