Pros
As a paid intern at AdMeTech Foundation, I am involved in research, education, and advocacy efforts related to the organization's groundbreaking advancements in prostate cancer. Daily tasks usually include preparing for AdMeTech's yearly Global Summit through communications with participating physicians and working on social media posts, newsletters, and the scientific program to name a few of the diverse amount of tasks. Coming into this position, I had no prior knowledge about cancer. However, as a pre-medical student, I had the opportunity to study literature and research on the current clinical trials and medical advancements of prostate cancer from presentations at the Summit. Through my presentations and engaging and valuable conversations with the president and CEO of AdMeTech, Dr. Shtern, I have learned an incredible amount of knowledge relating to the treatment and management of prostate cancer. Specifically, I have learned differing perspectives and opinions on the intersection of molecular, genetic, and imaging diagnostics which has given me a strong foundation of the complexities of scientific research. Every employee at AdMeTech is wonderful to work with and very skilled! I have learned so many technical skills in addition to medicine. Working as a part-time intern during the semester has also been a great experience and very doable with pre-medical studies! I highly recommend working at AdMeTech!
Cons
The internship is currently remote, which has its added benefits and drawbacks. However, constant zoom meetings with the team and quick communication responses enhance the virtual working and have not been a problem at all! Further, virtual meetings allow for access to working with physicians worldwide! With the virtual component, there is also room for flexibility with working during the semester part-time.
