Pros
You can make a difference in a child’s life. Many staff members are nice people. Free meals (they try their best!)
Cons
Very difficult kids to work with. You will sit through a week of training; none of it will prepare you for what you’ll ultimately face. You will get hit, kicked, screamed at and spit on. You will end up in a therapeutic hold and it will suck. Job burnout is frequent and HR does not care or do anything to help with that. If you’re lucky enough to have benefits, you will get very little PTO. Teachers are required to work 12 months as the school runs year round. If you are seen with your cellphone on your person, you will be written up and fired if it happens again. The company is not loyal to their best employees (ex: firing the most amazing director of Ed after 15 years of service with no warning/explanation to staff or students) I worked at the Learning Center in Cromwell for several years and saw a lot of stuff I’d rather forget. I met a lot of nice people, both staff and students, but overall the negativity of the environment is too toxic for anybody to manage in a healthy way. This job has the potential to leave you with some emotional damage that you may have not anticipated.
