Pros
The initial compensation I received was good, well at least comparable to the larger, more prestigious consulting firm I had just left. Additionally, after having to pay 10k out of pocket in medical bills, they did offer me a 10k salary increase. Unfortunately, they forget to put it in the system for several months and I had to bring it to their attention many times before it was corrected and I received any money. Shockingly, this oversight happened yet again when I received my annual compensation. Personally, I know several people who were very unhappy and were given or tempted with money to stay. Clearly, the PM had money to throw around on the contract, so if you can get on this contract and all you care about is money you’ll probably be happy there.
Cons
I felt completely isolated from my project manager even though he sat upstairs and would come down, walk right past me and talk to our clients. For nearly a year, we never had one company meeting, there is no evaluation process or assessments or discussion about goals or where you see yourself in the future. There were no Weekly or monthly status reports, or ways to communicate what you’ve been working on/accomplishing. As long as our team lead (who wasn’t government) was happy, we were successful. That was the way our PM measured success. I won’t be petty and add anything about the team lead’s behavior because she didn’t work for this company but she fired someone and then expected me to take over all of their work on top of the 12 hours of work I already had. I stated I couldn’t do this without risking degradation of the quality of my work and I received no support from my PM. He didn’t even respond to me, instead he reached out to our team lead to appease her. This didn’t surprise me because regardless of everything I had accomplished up to that point, I had failed by making the lead unhappy. Needless to say I quit during COVID with no backup job, which should tell anyone reading this just how much crap I had been put through.
