Pros

- Pockets of good people. - Office conveniently located; good coffee places close by. - Ergonomic desks.

Cons

- A lot of politics!! Warring egos, administrative burden, bureaucracy/background political maneuvering for personal and financial gain. - "Lining parachutes"- protecting high salaries and defined pensions/collecting multiple pensions at upper management levels, perhaps in fear of not knowing what the NDP Government will do with the AER? Yet, staff salaries are frozen for two years. - Conflict of interest- monitoring the very industry that's paying your bills. - "Managing up" to detriment of immediate reports. - Not proactive: reacting to industry needs and environmental incidents. - Lack of decision making and hence, lack of direction. - Environment/culture of fear and intimidation; no safe place to go if you experience conflict/micromanaging/bullying---resulting in very low morale and disengaged staff. Appears to be no consequences for bullying behavior. People are afraid to report bullying for fear of being stigmatized. Where is HR in all of this? - Career advancement largely to "who you know" over ability. - Being fired for not fitting in to the new management philosophy. - Safety net jobs are being created for favoured, but ineffective, individuals. - "Spin"- lack of open, honest, transparent communication. - Unclear job descriptions resulting in duplicating jobs. - Top heavy.

Pros

Overall good benefits and paid time off.

Cons

Incredibly unprofessional leadership without an understanding of how to effectively lead a team. Unethical behaviors and a hypocritical culture of being a people first oriented when they treat employees with disdain. I've worked in several other organizations and this is by far the worst environment I've been a part of.
