Pros
Great co-workers. Fairly tolerant and flexible place. Interesting work, and usually plenty of it. Genuine concern for people. Nice location. Close to public transport and shops. Producing real products that actually do improve people's lives.
Cons
No pay rises for years now. World wide, it's been a long time since we've had a profitable quarter. There are parts of the company that are profitable, but they seem to be getting the same treatment as the unprofitable parts - big lay-offs. When we do hire, we do not put a lot of care into hiring; being easy going is valued above technical ability. Management want us to change in order to be better, faster, cheaper, but it isn't clear what specific changes they want in order to achieve those contradictory objectives, or even if they understand that these objectives are contradictory. We absolutely do not have a culture of continuous improvement - the only thing that matters is this quarter's numbers - next quarter might as well be next decade, and next year or the year after, another planet. The only concrete idea management do have is to move as much work as possible to India.
