Excellent way to break into the NYC start-up scene - Editorial Intern AlleyWatch Employee Review

Pros

During my internship here, I was given a lot of assignments that involved writing stories, as well as editing stories. I also had the chance to attend an entrepreneurial event in Manhattan with one of the company's co-founders as well. Very open and responsive management style, encourages collaboration with other interns.

Cons

Advancement opportunities partially contingent upon having connections within the NYC start-up scene (goes with the territory of being an outlet which reports on start-up news); this is, however, only a problem if you don't live in the immediate area.

Pros

My internship gave me a great opportunity to learn more about the startup scene in NYC by taking part in a number of events and activities that I would not have normally had access to.

Cons

The workload can be quite heavy from time to time depending on the company's projects.

Pros

Allowed me to gain experience with social media and copy editing; covered business news for the first time.

Cons

Copy editing was only fixing grammar or spelling, not working with authors to make writing better; Work by telecommute so no sense of community; was supposed to have an editor check-in every week and mentor—did not happen.
