Working at Altera Digital Health as a Service Desk Analyst is like being stuck in a toxic relationship with an ex who gaslights you at every turn. Management manipulates you into feeling like you’re not doing enough, even when you’re going above and beyond for a paycheck that barely makes it worth it. No matter how hard you work, it’s never enough, while others coast by doing the bare minimum with no consequences.
The lack of accountability is staggering. Senior analysts who have been here for over five years still don’t know how to do their basic job. If you bring it up to management, they promise to “look into it,” but nothing changes. Meanwhile, hardworking employees who keep everything running are the ones getting fired. The company thrives on protecting inefficiency while punishing those who actually care.
Security incidents are another nightmare. There have been four security events at 4 of the used to be 8 hospitals we support, yet analysts are left completely in the dark. No communication, no guidance, just angry end-users yelling at us for not having answers. Instead of proactive leadership, there’s silence.
Communication within the team is just as dysfunctional. Managers rarely provide clear direction, and when users request to speak with one, they refuse to take the call. Instead, they push it onto another analyst, avoiding responsibility at every turn. Some senior analysts don’t even take calls for all clients. They pick and choose which queues they’re in, skipping certain clients just because they don’t feel like dealing with them. Those who care are forced to pick up the slack.
Performance reviews are equally useless. One-on-ones aren’t about growth or improvement, they’re just opportunities for managers to ramble about their personal lives. When they do finally let you talk, they either suddenly have to leave for a meeting or tell you to get on queue to take a call instead. It’s obvious they don’t see you as a person, just a body to fill a seat and take calls.
Raises are another joke. Management claimed there was no budget for pay increases, yet an analyst mysteriously got both a raise and a promotion, despite barely being able to do the basic duties of their job. Hardworking employees? Left behind with no recognition and empty promises.
If that wasn’t bad enough, one of the team members suggested creating a “learning ambassador” role to improve training. Management shot it down, saying it wasn’t needed. Yet, after that person did the work anyway as per the request of management, they created the exact same position and hired someone entirely new instead of recognizing the person who had already been doing it, who utilized the work created by the original suggester.
To top it all off, hospitals are abandoning the company. Clients are leaving for Epic, Athena, or other EHR alternatives, The writing is on the wall for this company. If you value your time, career growth, or even basic human respect in a workplace, STAY FAR AWAY from Altera Digital Health.
