With a clear vision for where you want to take your career you can drive towards this by selecting the appropriate roles and locations. Also some good thought leaders in the org to learn from.
Cons
Limited support and direction provided by management can mean you can waste time/effort driving new business which is not in line with a long term strategy. Strategic vision can also be lacking in certain areas.
