Pros
Has salary packaging. Provides agencies staff to cover short staffing. Easy to apply leave if it's for 1 day.
Cons
Too much staff hired from same community cause them to feel comfortable speaking in their own language even when other people from different communities around. Multiple emails have been sent to remind us to speak in English but it was still ignored as the higher positions did not set good examples. Some were speaking to each other in their own language even when attending residents and during work handover. As a person from a minority community working here, I feel left out and uncomfortable especially when they talked to each other regarding workplace related. Staff from minority communities are often picked on to do favours from the RN to cover needed areas. For example, I was told to swapped with other carers to work on another site 30minutes to 1 hour after I already done some things in the current place I worked and I have to start all over again because nothing was done by the previous carer who got swapped with me. I was simply told to go without given a chance to say no. The excuse was male carer are not allowed to work in that particular place but they kept accepting male carer's request to pick up that shift and swapping it to someone else without their acknowledgement. Often times, I was being swapped just because the staffs from same communities wanted to work together and they used their friendships with the RN from the same community to swapped other staff from minority communities around. I have been complaining about this issues to the manager but was ignored. Other than that, smaller maintenance issues such as broken TV in the resident's rooms has been ignored for a long time especially in the msu department. The skips has wheel issues that caused us back pain to pushed it around. Even after reported, it was fixed but after some times it has the same problem. Staff was criticised badly for using an alternative besides trolley however they did not provide better skips.
