Supportive environment, but poor management leads to overwork - Teacher Assistant Apollo English Language School Employee Review

Pros

Friendly staff and supportive working environment. Training sessions are provided to help TAs clearly understand the working process and responsibilities. Fun bonding activities that help employees connect with each other. The online recruitment process is convenient and flexible for applicants. The CV submission process is simple, and applicants receive email responses quickly.

Cons

The TA team manager is not very flexible when handling situations. Employees are sometimes required to work in ways that are inconsistent with the processes they were trained for. I was assigned to a Kindergarten class (children aged 5–6). According to the policy, only classes with more than 15 students require 2 TAs. Before that, the class had 14 students, and I had already requested an additional TA because the children were very young and difficult to manage alone, which could potentially lead to safety issues or accidents. Later, when the class increased to 16 students, I requested another TA again, but the manager refused due to a shortage of TAs and ongoing recruitment. As a result, I had to handle the workload of two TAs. This issue was caused by poor workforce management and the pressure from the sales department to achieve KPI targets by adding more students to the class despite knowing there was only one TA assigned.

Pros

Easy to get into if you're white or Filipino. The kids are more mature and speak better English than the administration!

Cons

Lower and lower pay because of online classes, not enough TAs, too much administrative work for no pay. They should be getting a bot for all this grading.

Pros

Offer continuing education and access to teaching resources

Cons

Terrible mismanagement of the COVID crisis, enjoyed making tone-deaf corporate videos that were supposed to encourage staff. Like most language centers in Vietnam, money is king at the end of the day and supersedes everything. About every week a new policy is enacted that you will be required to follow. Enjoy being threatened with write-ups and bonus reduction! Also, the pay at Apollo is far below the standard in Hanoi. They say it’s because of the benefits, but other reputable centers also have these benefits but pay more.
