Pros

• The team I worked with were excellent • Casual work environment • Decent coffee machine

Cons

• Being a 'culture fit' was far more important that the ability to do your job well. • Remuneration well below industry average. 'Company culture' considered to be a worthwhile replacement. Management expects people to 'do whatever it takes' and yet give the least possible in return. The attitude that seemed to come across was that staff are seen as disposable or easily replaceable. • Vague promises of better rates, employment or career opportunities that were never fulfilled. • For a company that perceives itself as agile and innovative, it was highly resistant to any input. Suggestions on improvement and streamlining of process met with anything between indifference to outright hostility. • As a result, there is a high rate of staff turnover, particularly of skilled and experienced people. • Lack of interest in producing quality products. We were, in fact, told explicitly to avoid any kind of value adding, even if we had time and budget. • People lacking key knowledge and experience making poor decisions to the detriment of projects. • Morally questionable attitude towards clients and potential sales

Hi, Firstly I’m glad you enjoyed our coffee machine, the team and our laid back culture. We have some really awesome people in Melbourne :-) However, I don’t think any company is perfect and we grow we’re always looking to improve. I’m sorry that you feel our compensation and career promises were met. As you were engaged as a contractor in our Melbourne office on a project by project basis it’s hard for us to commit to taking every contractor on as a full-time employee as our hiring is based on client demand. We have taken feedback about contractor rates onboard and have significantly increased them since you did your project at Appster as we received this feedback multiple times. We’re really proud of our relationships with clients and quality, and while every company can do better this is something we track and share weekly NPS feedback scores with our entire organisation. We spent time through automation and manual testing focusing on API, Security, UI, performance/load and a number of types of testing through our test cases. We have over 40 QAs in our organisation. I’m proud that this year we became a top 5 developer on independent review site Clutch.co and recently won a prestigious W3 award :-) Without being privy to the specifics about quality and client management, I’d be happy to have a chat to learn how we can do better. My email is mark.mcdonald@appster.com.au and I’m always free for a coffee or discussion. - Mark

Pros

Appster is an amazing company which is in the early stages of it's international plan for world domination. We only hire the most amazing people in their respected fields which allows us to take pride in what we execute. We have an extremely transparent work environment with a flat organisational structure. Our success to date is largely due to our training and recruitment models which increases productivity by alleviating micromanagement. We get to work in an environment which is always changing and adapting to the current trends which creates the ability to really utilize creativity. If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to work at Appster I STRONGLY suggest drop everything and do whatever is in your power to lock in a position. This is an amazing opportunity I have been lucky enough to receive and I know that this will be my last stop before retirement!!! Appster is the future so show us what you can do to help lock in a spot to help change the world!!!

Cons

I have to break it to people in some cases that their idea isn't feasible, original or potentially viral. This is the only thing about the job which I don't like however people appreciate the honesty so it really isn't as issue at all and is a great place to be as a business.
