Pros
Global reach with great opportunities for those willing to relocate. Competitive pay, especially for experienced hires and college hires with technical backgrounds. Good work/life balance. Knowledge and best practices are shared across the business. They have a world class research team supporting the manufacturing sites. With regards to management style, the company puts forth a genuine effort to not be the steel of old. For example, the scream and berate management style is largely the domain of a few remaining relics. If you want to be in steel, ArcelorMittal should be on your list to consider. But, do your homework, especially if you are going to a specific facility versus a corporate role. Network with someone to get the inside scoop on your prospective facility.
Cons
Senior level management competence and skill varies widely from site to site. Some sites have many flavor of the month initiatives, manage for today, and have openly stated that they see no value in developing long-range plans. When managing for today fails, the snow globe gets shaken and salaried people are reassigned, usually every 12-18 months. A handful of facilities are seeing consistent reinvestment to improve and remain competitive. Others are in a constant state of crisis due to harvesting of assets and a questionable fit within the overall long term picture.
