I had a brief stint at The Arham and would like to share my experience of working at this company. I joined as an Online Bidder but was promoted to Marcomm Manager in a short span of time. I was a manager in name only as the owner runs the place according to his whims and fancies. He only retains people who do his bidding without raising any questions. Most of the workers spend their time on social media platforms chatting with their friends and family members, and playing online games. The worst part is it is a haven for people who indulge in smoking pot and other activities during office hours. On one occasion an employee came and told me let’s have a booze session at 10.15 a.m. When I denied permission, the person went to the owner and took my name and asked for permission to drink. To my utter surprise, the owner said go ahead but do it on the terrace and not in the office. The people in the higher levels of the organization told me this is how an ad agency functions and without booze or pot there is no creativity; hence the company follows a lenient policy and allows their workers to have a free hand in such things. Moreover, I was told that since I refrain from such activities, I was an extremely boring person and God knows how my wife tolerates being with someone like me. The owner did not leave any opportunity to insult me after I decided to be a whistleblower as certain employees had decided to poach the company’s clients and form their own organization. The owner put the blame on me for the entire fiasco and said that I was leading those employees astray. The working condition became hostile with each passing day and I was asked to apologize and tender my resignation; the owner said if I didn’t do as I was told he would withhold my salary as he does not do charity work. The owner drafted a letter in the form of an undertaking on my behalf restraining me from writing any reviews and/or communicating with any of the employees of the company; the letter was sent to me from the official email id of the company. The strangest part was that if I give an undertaking why will I send it to myself from the company’s email id. This proves beyond doubt that they wanted me to sign it under duress. But the Business Head helped me to get my salary. The owner sees any employee who performs as a threat to the organization and thinks that the person’s objective is to take control. He fails to realize that if the company grows, so will its employees. The above mentioned statement is entirely my personal experience during my tenure at this organization. I hope no one else goes through the same ordeal.
