Politics and infighting are 90% of what you will deal with as an engineer. Decisions made outside of engineering consistently dictate technical implementation details, even when they clearly won't achieve the desired outcome.
A constant stream of surveys makes you feel heard but responses fall on deaf ears and result in no impactful change.
Engineering managers are more interested in infighting and one-upping other Managers than understanding and investing the career development of their direct reports.
Promotions are used as a strategic tool rather than a recognition of an employees level of skill / competence.
There is no bonus program for employees (aside from one offs for "exceptional" work, or peer driven point system); even recognition for exceptional work only come to those who market their work well.
The so-called bi-annual salary negotiation is a PDF received in slack. Arkose once had excellent pay - That is no longer the case.
Recently Arkose "let go" of 40+ staff, and now we're hiring in the same offices again.
Last but certainly not least, Arkose's "culture". Drinks on Fridays and monthly mental health days are heralded as proof of Arkoses excellent culture. However they just come across as a desperate attempt to draw in new and unsuspecting employees. There is no concerted effort to improve interpersonal relations between employees, even just within teams. More recently all company activities have been planned outside work hours too.
