If you're in a senior year of your phd program in Japan and want to gain some experiences, I recommend you to apply for the position. You will have a chance to engage in policy-oriented research and connect with key stakeholders in development sector.
Cons
You can enjoy the flexibility of the work, but on the other hand, this position is expected to provide an assistance to senior researchers and thus you do not usually have much responsibilities unless you gain it by yourself, which I believe is possible but perhaps depends on your supervisor.
