Pros

I had good experiences with the actual Askers Paid out on schedule as per the app

Cons

Very difficult to speak with someone. It took numerous back and forth messages to finally get someone to call me back. Every email I sent just resulted in an email back that did not address my concerns. Tasks are advance released to "expert taskers", giving them first pick at the full spectrum. This makes it very difficult for new taskers to gain any traction. On average, I saw 3 or 4 tasks available to me in a week and had to jump right on any task as soon as it was released to have a hope of getting one. 50% of the time, multiple taskers are trying to accept the same task at the same time and I would get a network error message. There are not enough tasks and too many taskers. AskforTask continues to accept new taskers anyway, which is not suprising when you consider that they charge each tasker $60 to onboard. Website speaks about how each tasker is carefully screened and selected. This is not true. I filled out a form online, they asked permission to do a criminal record check and a week later provided me with an "orientation" which was a phone call that lasted 4 minutes. During the call, the facilitator simply noted that I had filled out all the forms and confirmed I had downloaded the app. There was no instruction given on best practices, ways to succeed or even ask if I had any questions. I have no proof that they every did a background check, you're supposed to wear your ask for task t-shirt when at a customer site but I never received one even when I asked I got no answer and although it says taskers can rate askers, as well as the other way around, I was not able to rate my askers within the app nor was I prompted to do so through any other. In reading all the material online, it is skewed very heavily in the direction that any issues with an asker with result in the tasker being banned from the site. Although I had no issues with Askers, it doesn't speak well of the company that they are not interested in partnering with their contractors. The company takes anywhere between 30 and 40% of the fees, depending on the task type. Very high compared to most freelance websites. When I did finally get a phone call back, I was on the subway. The person calling did leave a voicemail and when I called them, it was just a generic customer service line and the person who took the call had no idea why I was calling. He did not want to provide his name when I asked who I was speaking with and ultimately asked "So what do you want" as his approach to my call. I had been asking for a callback to see what I could do to improve my success on the platform. Instead, I asked for my profile to be deleted.

Pros

Before getting a role at Askfortask, I was in the corporate world doing 9-5 roles. I was really scared at first about working at a startup as everyone told me there is no work/life balance. One thing i really appreciated about Askfortask is how involved their leadership is in the company. From managers to co-founders, everyone is super collaborative, engaging, helpful and fun to work with. One thing worth mentioning is that I had one of the co-founders, Nabeel sit with me in my final interview to ask me if i had any questions. Its very rare for companies to address questions, concerns during interviews. I took this opportunity and did mention my concerns about some of the bad reviews here. Nabeel addressed all of my concerns and gave detailed explanation about the stuff I was worried about. Quite honestly, I was blown away by how different things are here compared to what I read online. being part of this company, I would encourage everyone to just get in touch with anyone from our exec team and have a chat with them. You would definitely leave inspired, motivated and ready to take on the world!

Cons

As much as I love working here, one thing I would appreciate is having AskforTask involve in more socially responsible initiative. I would love to see our company investing both time and money to causes that matter in our society
