Pros

Work is interesting assuming you get access to the portfolio companies without the teams being difficult as Aurelius is unable to incorporate their teams without politics getting in the way. Spend lots of money on glamorous work trips but unable to properly compensate employees.

Cons

HR need to solicit positive Glassdoor reviews at events to mask how toxic the culture is. Dog eat dog environment, starting with the VPs who are out to get each other, let alone those on their team. Job security is non-existent. A specific investment had half the team Aurelius binned in the first 6 months. HR doesn’t have a backbone to stand up to the VPs on what’s ethical or even encourage a healthy working culture (even when complaints are put in). They are just fed in from the top and are constantly fending off the bad behavior of the VPs which is allowed to continue without consequences. Pay is far below market for private equity. Benefits are even worse (specifically pension). The carry is so low, it might as well not exist. Vertical teams are growing without much increase in deal flow. Diversity is shocking, with no active agenda to change the status quo. Having the Aurelius name on your CV is frowned upon when speaking to headhunters because of their reputation in the industry - makes exit opportunities limiting.

Pros

Significant scale and resources. Generally good team ethic. Very interesting part of private equity to work in. A very good place to learn a wide range of skills (e.g I came from a restructuring background but colleagues worked in FDD, CDD and banking previously)

Cons

Top-heavy organisation which leads to unintended consequences like competition for junior resources
