Pros
As a survivor of domestic abuse, my experience with this organisation has been profoundly impacted by the way it handled my personal circumstances and subsequent false malicious allegations. Despite these allegations now being proven false and malicious, the organisation chose to dismiss me with such little regard to my length of service and reputation for honestly and integrity. I dedicated over 10 years to this organisation, building a substantial career founded on integrity, honesty, and trust. My professional reputation was tarnished when confidential and deeply personal information about my circumstances was breached by a colleague of senior support worker level, whom works within one of the community resource centres. This individual, who had little interaction with me throughout my career, seemingly accessed and mishandled sensitive details, sharing these with colleagues in and outside of the organisation. This colleague shamelessly ridicules victims of domestic violence and callously makes light of an incredibly serious and painful subject, exposing a deeply unsettling lack of character, empathy, and basic human decency. A carefully worded grievance was submitted regarding this matter and was partially upheld, yet there is little confidence that the issue was addressed adequately or that any meaningful action was taken. The breach of confidentiality could only have occurred from very senior management. Throughout this ordeal, I faced gender bias from managers at the assistant director level and within HR. Despite being open, honest, and providing substantial evidence to refute the false allegations, the organisation prioritised protecting its reputation over supporting me as an employee. The allegations have since been proven false, yet the perpetrator remains employed, leaving me to feel unsupported and let down. The organisation was fully informed of the false and malicious nature of the allegations and the outcome, but made no effort to issue an apology or to reconcile the profound harm caused. While my overall experience has been painful, I must commend my line manager, who offered genuine support during what can only be described as the most challenging time of my life. Their guidance and empathy were invaluable, however I did receive no contact from colleagues of senior level whilst under-going this process where as prior to this I would have done. Negatives: Toxic Culture: Gossip and breaches of confidentiality are common, creating a distrustful environment. Heavy Workload, Minimal Reward: Employees face relentless pressure with little recognition for their hard work. Lack of Loyalty: Long-serving, dedicated employees are often subjected to undue stressand bigger workloads rather than rewarded. Limited Recognition: For my 10-year work anniversary, I received a generic, pre-printed card from the CEO with no internal acknowledgment of this milestone. Positives: Career Development: The organisation offers excellent opportunities for growth and skill development. Learning and Development: Ongoing training is highly beneficial and of a good standard. Annual leave allowances for long service and family-friendly policies are generous. I hope sharing my experience sheds light on the need for change, particularly in addressing gender bias, protecting employee confidentiality, and fostering a genuinely supportive workplace environment. I truly hope lessons can be learnt and policies amended in the way they treat people in a similar situation to mine. As I attempt to move on with my length whilst still suffering from on-going abuse, I feel it is important to now 'be heard' and have my story told and intend to share my experiences as much as possible, advocate for change and positive mental wellbeing particularly for other males who may find themselves in similar situation's to mine. Whilst I appreciate this was a very delicate situation to manage for the organisation, I am however aware of disciplinary's through my Union that have exceeded the amount of time my situation lasted. Why did this organisation feel the need to dismiss me in this way, when I simply could've been put on un-paid leave or granted a career break whilst under investigation. I have been failed.
