Pros
Lots to learn about ABA
Cons
1. Steep learning curve in the first month but learning plateaus after 2. Toxic culture - Gossip culture is strong - Supervisors may seem friendly, but get in their bad books and you'll be treated differently - Therapists are hired in batches and usually will only stick to their own batch mates - Very top-down approach where seniority is clearly felt - Junior therapists are not treated like adults 3. Work is repetitive and mundane - Sessions are 3 hours long, with therapists having 2 sessions per day (8.45am-11.45am and 2.15pm-5.15pm) - Each child only has a certain number of programs (about 3-5 on average) that are repeated over and over throughout the 3 hours - Not uncommon to hear therapists saying "I don't know what else to do with (child)" - Nature of ABA may make you feel more like a teacher than a therapist 4. Ad hoc replacement/bad planning - Therapists can be informed as late as 20min to 1/2hr before session that they have to do a replacement - Therapists can expect to take on a replacement case they've never seen before
