Pros
The "fun committee" made coming to work worth it. Lots of free lunch, fun activities to do during your work day, and its an employee-owned company with an ESOP plan, so depending how long you are there the more stock you will get. It's actually one of the better benefits that I've received in the other insurance companies I've worked for.
Cons
During my time the department was very short staffed and the ones that are hired take a while to get up to speed. It's nothing against them, I respect wanting to hire from within, but this breeds a culture of the people who have the most experience to get arrogant and feel "irreplaceable." No one is irreplaceable. COVID was rough on this organization, I worked from home very effectively, but we were brought back and were on rotating schedules. Coworkers had trouble working and were very slow working from home. It made what needed to be done go very slow if I was waiting for a question from another colleague. With PTO, I did have a backup, but this particular employee would just stack up the work for me for when I got back. I was drowning and when I told my manager about this, she didn't really have any help to give since, as noted, we were very short staffed for the work we were expected to do. I would take a week of PTO and it would take me my first week back to catch up what I missed. A never ending cycle - it seemed I would dig myself out and then it would be tough to catch up. Last note is regarding some coworkers, some of them were impossible to work with. Awful attitudes as described by some other reviewers, some that have "one foot out the door" and are just putting the time in until they retire, or they're just not great to work with. Not great hires, but they have insurance experience, and that's what got them the job, not their people skills or ability to work in a team.
