Pros

- Great work-life balance & overall flexibility - Pay & benefits - Work on unique homes of varying ages, locations, & foundation types across the Bay Area - Exposure to engineering challenges/solutions for residential structures & foundation systems of varying ages - Helping homeowners, buyers, & sellers; work is fulfilling - Leadership & co-workers are friendly, knowledgable, & helpful

Cons

- Variable & occasionally challenging working conditions (mostly crawlspace constraints) - Daily commuting throughout the Bay Area - Scheduling can be somewhat irregular due to the nature of the business - Continual report turnaround

Thanks for the review! As mentioned in some of the other responses, the crawlspaces can be challenging but that keeps it interesting so you have to be a bit adventurous for the role. We try our best to schedule inspections around traffic (first one usually starts around 9:30) but of course you can hit traffic.

Pros

- Great work/life balance - Can realistically take on as many inspections as you like. If you're really ambitious the opportunity is there. - Not stuck in an office (100% field work) - Great for those interested in engineering education as you're often communicating engineering concepts to homeowners/buyers/sellers - Team is always available for technical expertise and help with difficult clients

Cons

- Occasional exceptionally unpleasant crawlspace - Having to deliver bad news - Entry level engineers may face scrutiny regarding their qualifications so be prepared to confidently back up your experience level! - Depending on where you live in the Bay Area and where/when the inspection is, traffic can be terrible (this isn't unique to this particular job though)
