Pros
- Lab Manager is very warm and caring, goes out of his way to provide advice and be comforting even when he is not obliged to do so; personally this is one of the only saving graces of working there. Has told me not to take the working culture personally and a number of people have come and go because of this. - Director appears more laidback and makes us feel more at ease.
Cons
- Inconvenient to go out for lunch. - Abrupt impromptu meetings which disrupt the flow of work. Get accused of being 'disrespectful' when we turn up slightly late for said meetings, even though those meetings were scheduled out of the blue and at times, are not relevant to the work we are doing nor are we able to make a difference to whatever is being discussed in those meetings. If anything, it feels like we are the ones being disrespected for being expected to drop everything we are doing for those abrupt meetings. - Weekly meetings on Friday seem to value people who are able to 'wayang' well and those who don't have much to say are accused of 'not putting in effort'. Those weekly meetings to give updates would make sense if we are involved in an R&D project, but unless they want to hear the same thing every week, what purpose does it serve for those involved in the routine testing of samples? - Seems quick to judge a person's character. Was keen on hiring me and 'chased' me when I was still at my previous company, but all this happened within a month of working for them. To be fair, this might not be a bad thing as this means we don't waste each others' time if we don't find each other suitable.
