Pros
- Clear direction & fun game. - Passionate team. - Trials doing things differently (4DWW) - FPS project and own IP, making something not yet established is fun. - Entire team playtests the game twice weekly and it's fun - Drinks Fridge / Breakfast Bar / Good Office, Tech & Toilets - Teammates who are talented / own their work / honest - Has fun end of milestone rituals. MVPs of the milestone get called out in front of entire company and hit a hard drive with competitor titles and a sledgehammer and win a steam voucher. Everyone's work for that milestone gets compiled into an edited video and shown to the team. Sounds kinda stupid because it is but it's just a good example of recognizing peoples work and the culture so I like that. - People are there to do work, make a fun game and have fun... it's not a rigid serious workplace, people want to make a great FPS game. - Surprised at other reviews tbh which compelled me to write this one... I think people who had been let go or left didn't fit the culture. There's alot to like and dislike depending on your personality so I'd suggest asking a lot in interview to vibe check. If you want a rigid structure go to a larger AAA company.
Cons
- Outside companies used to influence decisions / direction. I think most this is game development politics. Seems like more recently company has it's own control back and is relying less on outsourcers. - Candid communication can be abrasive. If you don't want to have honest conversations or debate view points don't apply. - Occasional semi forced socials. Every few months there's a event with drinks. They are fun but honestly would rather chill playing games in office with pizza/drinks to be social with other depts... this is only a con if you don't care for drinking. - If you don't care about FPS games you will struggle as the studio is very game focused. - Scope of the project used to be silly but its more recently coming to earth with what's actually achievable. - Lots of big tech challenges still to overcome with the scope of the project and performance is a huge concern for project success.
