Pros
The connections made with clients is a pro
Cons
The second you are hired, you are forced into playing a popularity game, led by upper management. The second you decide you don’t want to play that game because you are not in high school (management seems to forget that), you are performance managed every chance management gets. Even in a management role, you find out very quickly that you are not part of a management team that is capable of receiving feedback without retaliation (despite being told you are a manager team at redundant weekly manager meetings). They claim to care about their employees and claim to celebrate diversity and inclusion, but that is only if you are liked across the board. For black/POC employees, at minimum you will be microaggressed pretty consistently with the employees you work with while management plays along. At maximum, you will be physically and mentally exhausted and close to tormented because the tiniest slip will get you a sit down with People and Culture, who do not have your back either. The second you have a complaint about upper management’s behavior or work, you will be performance managed almost monthly for a single slip up, while your coworkers who play the game are allowed to get away with murder in front of the GM or AGM themselves (and trying to bring this difference in treatment to anybody is impossible as it falls on deaf ears). Unfortunately, this is not the first time this treatment has been given to employees who stand up for themselves and it’s obvious it will not be the last until management decides to grow up or management changes. Was personally lucky enough to leave on my own terms.
