Pros
-Great selection of trades
-Safety is paramount
-after school clubs well run and attended
-plenty of school and vocational supplies (except some books)
-I would recommend this as a place to work due to the other teachers and some admin, but watch your back and cover your butt
Cons
-Sexual harassment is a real problem and not just for the teachers.
- one of the dean of students has been sexually harassing teachers and staff - superintendent not only ignored the complaints but continued grooming him as his replacement.
-major conflicts of interest between superintendent and local college
-misogyny is the norm in a few of voc setting and female students are berated and told they do not belong in some of the trades
-not enough classrooms for all teachers
-not all students get the services they need in vocational setting
-vocational teachers are not held to same standards as academic teachers
-MCAS testing is a disaster every time
-fear of reprisals have been real and justified when staff has a complaint
-mentors for teachers are, overall a joke
-some classrooms not appropriate for teaching, too small, poorly ventilated, poorly supplied with books and electronic devices ie smart boards, projection screens, and not enough room for desks and staff.
-not enough is done to teach our students about all aspects of future employment.
-not enough interaction or education with the public and future employers
