Pros
I nervously joined the Bay Ridge Prep faculty a few years ago after turning down offers at a few other schools where I knew people. The interview process, which included meeting several other teachers plus students, gave me so much insight into how special this place truly is and kept drawing me back. I have never felt so supported by colleagues and administrators, and appreciated by students and their families, than I have been at Bay Ridge Prep. So many places throw around the word community but run things like corporate institutions. I haven’t experienced that here and it really feels like I’m part of something special.
Cons
Bay Ridge, the neighborhood, is a bit of a commute. There’s just one train in/out of the area and few other options besides driving.
Compensation and benefits are decent for a Brooklyn private school but some of the extra perks that other private schools offer such as meal plans and funds toward tuition expenses are not offered. Maybe as the school grows it will add that on.
