Division Presidents all have different ideas about how marketing should work, and though marketing reports through a solid vertical line to the national HQ, the “dotted line” to the division president put me squarely in the middle of a tug of war I could not win. I did not have a sufficient budget for the number of new communities being opened too quickly to build proper interest lists that could translate into an acceptable sales rate, and ultimately I lost my job because of the division president.
