Pros
Casual dress code, decent benefits package, subsidized lunches, monthly outings paid by the company, and occasionally have the chance to win free products through sales competitions.
Cons
I'm likely going to run out of characters before I get to fully explain how poor of a career choice this will be for most. Let's start at the top. I personally have witnessed the owner literally chew out and cuss at numerous employees. This is an HR nightmare dropping f-bombs, asking these people if they're dumb, all in front of other employees (it's an open office set-up). He only does this to the males in the office so females are safe. Everyone below the owner is a puppet that does exactly as he says. If you disagree with anything at all and express your opinion you're done, bye bye. Management is made up two types. The first is someone that has been so terrible at their sales role that they move them into a management position because it seems like the most logical thing to do. They have zero experience managing people. The second type is members of the "good ol boys club". Some were very strong in their sales role, none have management experience, all have brown noses and drink the same kool-aid. A third and very rare management type worth mentioning is the fresh out of college baby-faced kid that has little to no experience and been with the company for maybe a year and a half. Because of the inexperience there is absolutely no leadership (there's a huge difference in managing and leading) and full on 100% micro management. Want to know how many calls you've made? How many minutes you're on the phone? They will tell you- even post it on the big screens for everyone to see. These same inexperienced manager audit phone calls, notes, and tell those with experience how they should be doing it. Beyond that it's young, fresh out of college people that don't know any different because it's their first real job. If you're looking for a career with a defined path to growth, there isn't one. If you do end up with a "better position" there's little to no pay raises. Yearly raises are minimal at best (if you even get one) and commission structure changes as much as the weather- never for the better. Over the last year to two years it's actually gone down by half. Every year there are what appears to be random firings. No one really knows why because their is no communications about it. It's almost like they do it to scare the crap out of people. Finally, the products they sell are way over priced and the competition is beginning to catch on. More competition is coming about because other companies see that the market BAS holds can be infiltrated with similar products for less. The products are so over priced the employees can't afford to purchase them anymore. I say anymore because they raised the employee costs by a substantial amount on the products they could put in their own home such as the Haiku model fans. Shouldn't employees have these products in their possession so they can speak from experience when trying to sell? BAS even has to make a profit from the employees, it's sad. I'm sure I could go on about other things like moving desks every couple of months, snow days policy, leaving at 5:00 when your shift is over (this is frowned upon because they want you to stay late so they can squeeze every ounce of work out of you. This is daily and not just when it's busy) and much more but I won't, my hands are tired of typing.
