Pros
The most amazing customers, employee discount, decent work schedule and somewhat rewarding.
Cons
The 1/2 owner that runs the store and the toxic work environment he's created. When ownership changed hands about a year ago so did the culture. He runs the Big Tool Box like he did his fast food restaurant. Rarely trusting the team on the floor to do their jobs often snapping his fingers and pointing when he sees a customer indicating you need to greet them. Not paying attention that you helped them earlier. When he's in the store the stress level for the employees is through the roof, most of the Big Tool Box staff loathed him. I LOVED working at TBT and it was so incredibly rewarding to help a customer who was absolutely frustrated with their plumbing, electrical, paint, insect and lawn problem to see them later or get a phone call thanking me. A phone call I got one day," I can't thank you enough, we've had this leaky outdoor faucet forever and showed me how to fix it". "The plumber we called gave us an estimate of $175.00 plus materials". "You fixed it for less than $12.00 and coached me on how to put it back together" I was a high performing team member and on my last review I got a 5 out of a 5 in all areas. During my almost 3 years there I received PTO and when there was a problem with my PTO and I voiced concerns to HR, my employment was terminated by the owner. The pay is terrible and you'll never get a raise.
