Self-destructed chasing PE hyper-growth - Software Developer BigTime Software Employee Review

Pros

If you're a young engineer in phoenix, there are some great mentors there that would help you gain some significant knowledge and experience. Not a bad opportunity if you go into it expecting 1-2 years of learning to jump ship to a more stable (and likely well-paying) oppurtunity elsewhere. If you blindly obey senior leaderships asks, even if theyre self-destructive to the company, you have a fair chance to see promotion.

Cons

Once their PE growth goals stopped getting hit in late 2023, BigTime has shifted all their efforts from long-term and well-planned initiatives to making any short-term change possible to try and keep their PE backers happy. This came in the form of 5-10% layoffs every 3 months, all-in "strategic bets" on software features and acquisitions trying to become an ERP, all the while forsaking their core product that is the entirity of their successful business. Even if you're senior, your ability to affect change is severely handcuffed by vp-level management who are more interested in appeasing the board than representing and championing their department.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We genuinely appreciate your thoughtful feedback—both the positive and the constructive. It’s great to hear that your experience working with the Phoenix team included strong mentorship and opportunities to grow. We’re proud of the environment we’ve built to foster opportunity for professional growth, and it’s encouraging to know that made an impact during your time with us. At the same time, we’re sorry to hear your concerns about recent organizational changes and our strategic direction. Like many in tech, we’ve had to navigate shifting market dynamics, and that’s meant recalibrating our focus in some areas. Our commitment remains steady: build a sustainable, resilient business that delivers lasting value to our customers. Investments in AI and targeted acquisitions are part of that strategy—not a departure from our core, but a way to strengthen it. Your comments on internal communication and leadership alignment are also heard. Trust and transparency are critical to how we operate, and we know how important it is that leaders feel both connected to strategy and empowered to support their teams. We’ll carry your feedback forward as we continue to evolve. Wishing you all the best in what’s next. Melissa Ryan VP People
