Pros
Great learning and training opportunities, they invest in their people. Get to experience full breadth of financial industry and see what appeals to you.
Cons
Culture of complacency due to layers of dead wood mgmt that happened to be in sales during glory days (when hedge funds would call Bloomberg for terminals, not the other way around) with massive tailwinds so they looked good. Unfortunately most smart / driven employees left before moving up through the ranks, thus you're left with duds managing studs. Not a good combo. I want to also say people are underpaid, but given the light workload I don't think so. But by finance standards the pay (and hours) are lower. Headwind in face of core terminal business means this is all a tough problem to solve, but reinvesting for growth and disrupting oneself should be the plan, especially b/c they're private.
